In rainy spring season, Genji visits a mansion in Hanachirisato. The scenery of moon light with its reflection is so elegant and expresses Japanese life well mixed with its nature. The technique of using gold leaf to express clouds is used in many parts of Genji Story scrolls.

五月雨の頃、源氏は花散里の屋敷を訪ねる。雲の晴れ間から、月の光に照らされる情景がなんとも優美で自然との調和を図る日本人の暮らしの様子が良く分かる。金箔を用いて雲を表現する技法は源氏物語絵巻の様々な場面でみられる。
花散里の帖より
