“Collaboration Event with Ryukyu Bingata @ Naha City”

Bingata, nurtured over a long history and continuing to captivate people with its unique colors and patterns, refers to “colors” for the “red” in Bingata and “patterns” for the “kata.” Its origins are said to date back to the 13th to 14th centuries. During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, Bingata was mainly used for the clothing of royalty and nobility, not for common people. The Ryukyu Kingdom maintained peace through trade with various Asian countries, including the Chinese mainland, and Japan proper. During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, which lasted for over 400 years, Bingata was influenced by various cultures. The colors of the sea, the sky, the flowers, and the mountains. In tropical Okinawa, the natural colors are vivid and intense, endlessly captivating visitors. Bingata, which expresses this nature through the craftsmanship of artisans, uses pigments to enhance its uniqueness. Over the ages, Bingata has been nurtured, protected, and handed down.
This time, the dyeing and processing technology of the KYOTO Leather Project has breathed new life into Bingata. 国産牛の副産物として生まれたサスティナブルなレザーの上に表現されたその色・柄の美しさを、是非 お楽しみ下さいませ。
