In 2024, the “BINGATA LEATHER PROJECT,” a new product development project utilizing domestic leather for the traditional craft “Ryukyu Bingata,” was launched by volunteers from the Ryukyu Bingata Business Cooperative Association and KYOTO Leather. In 2025, a leather brand called “Bin.,” targeting “adults traveling to resorts,” will be born using leather dyed with Bingata dyeing using Okinawa Prefecture cattle.
The material used is Okinawan cattle hides that have primarily been incinerated and disposed of until now. By tanning and processing them in Himeji, one of Japan’s leading leather production areas, we have created the finest materials. The beauty of Bingata expressed on top of that. From cutting, sewing, to final finishing, each item is responsibly completed by craftsmen, taking more than twice the usual time.
